Description
Between 1917 and 1931, Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936) transcribed three orchestral suites from original pieces written for lute between the 16th and 18th centuries. Antiche Danze ed Arie (Ancient Airs and Dances), Suite 2 , written in 1923, includes the following works: 1. Laura Soave (Fabritio Caros, ca. 1531); 2. Danza Rustica (Jean-Baptiste Besard, ca. 1617); 3. Campanæ Parisienses/Aria (anonymous composer/Marin Mersenne, ca. 1600); 4. Bergamasca (Bernardo Gianoncelli, ca. 1650).
